Therapies

Depending on your specific needs, your ThedaCare Orthopedics Plus therapy care team will consist of your physician and physical therapist, and may also include an occupational therapist and/or a licensed athletic trainer. This multi-disciplined approach gives you a more thorough assessment of your injury or post-surgery condition and what the best and most efficient manner of treatment is. Our facility features state-of-the-art equipment located in one, expansive area for ease of use. A member of your therapy team will be with you every step of the way to assist in your personal recovery. In fact, you will often find several members of our staff on-site who will be happy to help you at any time. No matter what course your therapy takes, rest assured your convenience comes first.

Conditions

Back >

Low Back Pain

The most common cause of back pain is due to muscle strain, but it can also be ligament strains, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, osteoporosis and fybromyalgia. Stretching and strength-building exercises are a very effective way to loosen your back muscles, avoid further injury and relieve pain. In severe cases of spinal stenosis, surgery is recommended. Our therapists are highly skilled in seeking out and determining what specific stretches and exercises will be the most beneficial to you.

Neck >

Neck Strain/Sprain

A strain of the neck, or the muscles around the cervical spine, is often called whiplash. A neck sprain occurs in the ligaments. These neck muscle injuries happen when there is a sudden extension and flexion of the neck. Treatment includes rest and anti-inflammatory medicines in conjunction with stretching exercises. When this combination of therapies is used, we often see patients improve from neck strains and sprains quickly.

Arm >

  • Shoulder Strain/Sprain
  • Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
  • Post Shoulder Surgery Therapy (Rotator Cuff Repair, Subacromial Decompression)

Injuries to the arm and procedures to correct the injury can come in many forms. That’s why physical therapy to strengthen the arm and occupational therapy to regain arm and hand function are both necessary for a proper recovery. We utilize a wide variety of fine and gross motor skill therapies for your arm and hand. Our patients will often work with more than one therapist during a session in order to get the most out of each appointment.

Leg >

  • Post Knee Surgery Therapy (ACL Repair, Menisectomy)
  • Post Total Knee Replacement Surgery Therapy
  • Post Total Hip Replacement Surgery Therapy
  • Ankle Sprain
  • Post Fracture Surgery Therapy
  • Hip Strain/Sprain

Knee >

  • Inability to walk comfortably on the affected side
  • Pain when walking down stairs
  • Injury that causes deformity around the joint
  • Knee pain that occurs at night or while resting
  • Knee pain that persists beyond a few days
  • Giving way or instability of the joint
  • Locking (inability to bend) the knee
  • Popping of the joint associated with pain
  • Swelling of the joint or the calf area
  • Fever, redness, warmth

Physical therapy for leg injury recovery usually begins the day after surgery. Early mobilization is key to rebuilding strength in the weakened portion of the leg. With most fractures a cast is necessary, but many times braces are used to aid in treatment. For your convenience, we offer a full range of leg braces right in our facility and our physical therapists are always on hand to show you how to properly wear the devices.
